Breaking News: The Erie County Public Library was awarded a NACo Award for its program titled “Singing Along: Creating a Local Artist Music Collection” in the category of Libraries. The Local Music Project was launched in February 2016 as an initiative to create a triangular connection between the library, local musicians and the community. It was created by Sarah Brown-Millspaw and myself, Jessica Makowski, and has received a lot of support by our managers, coworkers and the community. In addition, this is a first NACo award for The Erie County Public Library System.
Congrats to Sarah, Jessica, and the Blasco Memorial Library. You guys rock!
The library is hosting Erie Talent Share the same evening we do our event there. The staff member we are working with told us this about the Talent Share:
The Erie Talent Share is an open mic held in our beautiful Peninsula Room that looks out over Lake Erie. It's focus is to provide an opportunity for performers to practice their talents in a different sort of space. It also provides an opportunity for musicians to host an open mic without making a huge commitment. We book a different host each month.
Many open mics are held in bars, which is lovely, but we wanted to provide a different sort of environment and include all ages. The Talent Share is a sub-project of Erie Library Local Music Project, a project started by Sarah and myself that highlights Erie's local music scene. We collect CDs of local music (donated by local musicians and erie residents) and enter them into the system for borrowing. We also organize events such as the Talent Share and Puck Rock the Vote which allows us to focus on the different aspects of how important local music/creativity is to our city, branching outward.
We've been invited to participate. Should be a fun time!
Update: We did participate and it was great fun.
Thanks to Jessica and Sarah for promoting our event and making this such a fun experience.
