Show in Newport, OR 6/9/17 - 7/4/17
The first art show for Connecting US 20 was at the Newport Visual Arts Center in Newport, OR for the month of June, 2017. The feature of the show was a wall filled with images of books adorned with cheesecloth. The originality and creativity of the creations made a vivid display of talent from across the United States. Sal's collage maps of the 12 US 20 states and the US hung in space to create shadows and movement. And much more.
Sal worked at the exhibition every day it was open. She encouraged guests to create safety pin chains at our pinning installation. This was fun for our guests but what they enjoyed most was a cheesecloth toss exercise Sal deemed "Running Through Rainbows". Laughter rang out thru the VAC as guests enjoyed the childlike play of tossing colored cheesecloth in the air and ran through it. Sal and the VAC hosted well in excess of 1000 visitors during the exhibition, setting many daily attendance numbers. We thank all who came and enjoyed. |
Show in Lincoln City, OR 1/12/18 - 2/5/18
Connecting US 20 reprised at the Lincoln City Cultural Center in Lincoln City, OR in January 2018. The show featured many of the same art pieces as our show in Newport and the documentary video we made of our journey. The show opened in the Chessman Gallery on 1/12/18 and ran thru 2/5/18. Sal was there every Saturday to tell visitors about the project and have them again become the performers.
